Den building is awesome fun and for kids of varying ages. Whether it be making a cardboard-based den, building a cosy fort of blankets or getting creative in the great outdoors. Dens are a superb way for kids to explore their creativity and they relish spending time on them. We’ve pulled together a few ideas to provide some den inspiration but we all know kids love coming up with ideas themselves too.
Indoor den building ideas
Cardboard and cardboard boxes are a brilliant starting point for den making. Just cut out a door on one side, making sure no sharp edges remain and turn the box upside down. Kids can make it nice and cosy by adding cushions or bedding. Or anything else they fancy. They might want to colour the outside of their den and a Super Bendy Light is handy if they need light for reading. Other cardboard creations include building a fort, a house or even a castle.
Blankets or bed sheets make a fantastic substitute for den making if there’s no cardboard in the house. The lounge is great for this as blankets can be laid across two chairs or other furniture in the room. The blankets just need to be held in place with cushions or pillows.

On warmer days, building dens in the great outdoors is brilliant fun especially if you don’t have a tent or tepee that’s easy to pop up. Blankets or sheets over a trampoline net make for an entertaining den or pop some cushions and bedding in a clean, dry paddling pool to make a cosy snug.
